FANTASTIC BEASTS

INTEGRATED REVIEWS

   For this TV campaign we integrated reviews into movie footage. This text is first built as a 3D obj in Photoshop to give it the chiseled bevel, then brought into Cinema 4D for texture and light, and finally composited in After Effects. The team did many of these graphics for this campaign, and the ones in this string out are the ones where I was responsible for building the text and tracking them into the footage and rotoscoping.

UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT

SEASON 3

    Netflix wanted to set up Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with an optimistic Kimmy twist on propaganda design.

     I used the print campaign to guide the design for this spot. I designed and digitally painted the propaganda posters at the top of the spot and animated transitions into a poster for each character. I used the puppet tool to add animations to the posters.

CAMPAIGN GRAPHICS

   My Art Director designed this wonderfully simple and bold look for Love, Simon. I then animated it with dynamic text and swishing backgrounds. This animation style became the default for many of the spots created for the campaign.

UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT

SOCIAL TRAILER: SEASON 2

   This trailer was made for Facebook where viewers might not always have the volume turned up. We wanted fun, bouncy text consistent with the Kimmy brand and colorful text bubbles instead of standard subtitles. I designed and animated all of the graphics for this spot.

TRAILER GRAPHICS

    My creative director wanted graphics in the style of the opening titles of Catch Me If You Can. I designed these silhouette characters in Illustrator and rigged them with DUIK in After Effects for the animation. I also applied the texture, set the type, and animated the transitions in and out of the graphics.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE

TRAILER GRAPHICS

   I used the awesome half-tone effects featured throughout the film to inspire the design for these trailer graphics. We wanted these graphics to read more colorful and fun than the first trailer. I used glitchy effects in the animation as there are also glitchy effects in the animation throughout the feature.

BEST GRAPHICS IN A TRAILER FOR A SERIES

   This was a fun project as this is a show shot recently but made to look as if it was shot in the 80's. We went really cheesy retro with the graphics which helped sell the tongue-in-cheek nature of the show. My Art Director animated the internal cards while I was responsible for the design and animation of the Main Title.

UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT

KIMMYOKE WITH ELLIE KEMPER

   I was given flat cartoon illustrations of Kimmy that Netflix wanted animated. These illustrations weren't originally designed for becoming puppet rigs, so I had to figure out creative ways to cut them apart so I could rig them with DUIK. They turned out cheesy and silly, which is exactly what I wanted. I also animated the title card, background, and text and keyed the footage.

EDDIE THE EAGLE

INTEGRATED GRAPHICS

   I tracked and rotoscoped these graphics into these shots. The first shot was tricky because the motion blur on the footage made it hard to get reliable tracking points. I slowed down the second shot using Twixtor to reduce the bounciness of the text. I rotoscoped all of the spectators in front of the screen in the 3rd graphic in order to replace the screen with new text.

MAZE RUNNER

COMIC BOOK GRAPHICS

   I was provided with JPEG images of this Maze Runner comic book and used them to create a fully animatable comic book inside After Effects. I animated the pages flipping with a combination of CC Page Turn and Bezier Warps. I transitioned between footage and comic pages throughout the spot with brush stroke reveals. After doing this once for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Fox asked us to do it again for Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

THE GET DOWN

NETFLIX HOMEPAGE BILLBOARD

   This billboard was featured on the Netflix homepage when The Get Down was first released. I developed the look of the posters inspired by posters from the time period of the show. Each poster is individually animated with moving text and pictures. I animated the posters flying in and out of clips from the billboard and transitioning in and out of show footage.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

SEASON 4 TRAILER

   For this season of Orange Is The New Black we wanted bold graphics that were a little more playful than previous seasons. I designed this orange background texture which I then overlaid on footage for fun on-brand cards.

JUMANJI

ANIMATED BILLBOARD

   This animation was created for an audible motion billboard at an outdoor shopping area. The spot started and ended with the Main Title and played in a loop. I animated the text breaking apart to help separate the segments of time between when the Main Title was static on screen and when the spot was playing.

CATASTROPHE

TRAILER GRAPHICS

   I hand-wrote all of these graphics on a tablet so that I could switch between layers to create the kinetic twitchy effect. As this season of the show was dealing with a major fight and some separation issues for the main couple, I animated the text to be flaking apart using Trapcode Particular. The skyline illustration was provided to us from the production studio and i cut it apart to be able to animate elements like the Ferris Wheel, bridge, and water.

POWER RANGERS

LEGACY TV SPOT

   This spot was created for fans nostalgic for the original Power Rangers. I used the old show as reference to animate the Power Rangers flying through the air and landing. I composited the cheesy fireball flames into the shot of them running and used the Lightning plugin to match the new Main Title to the one from the old show.

SEASON 3

   I used Particular and shape layers to animate sparkly rainbows coming from Kimmy's raised arms. I keyed the footage and put it over the bright pink background and animate the fly through the arms to land on the Main Title.

KINGSMAN: SECRET SERVICE

INTEGRATED GRAPHICS

   I built this text in the campaign style and animated the slice through. I rotoscoped and replaced the screen with the graphic of Samuel L. Jackson's character. I placed the mastheads for publications with positive reviews of the film on top of the weapons closet shot and subtly reduced the contrast in parts of the shot so the text could be read clearly.

A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS

TIME LIFE TRAILER GRAPHICS

   This was a fun retro spot advertising this mini-movie as an old Time Life special. The graphics throughout were a team effort, but my main responsibilities were designing and animating the record album at the top of the spot.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN

LYRIC VIDEO

   The text for this lyric video is created with a series of effects in After Effects. I tracked and rotoscoped the footage to integrate the text into the shots.

   For this trailer we wanted classic academy worthy graphics so we decided on a simple gold serif look that I created.

HATERS BACK OFF

SEASON 1 CAMPAIGN GRAPHICS

   I designed this messy pink paint background to compliment the main character's famous messy lipstick. I animated the text kinetically switching between styles and scales to give a sort of frantic energy to the graphics.

MALEFICENT

BREAK THE MATTE

   These are "breaking the matte" graphics, used to advertise a movie that is screening in 3D. For these I scaled in to the shots so they would cover the matte, and then rotoscoped the action to happen in front of the matte. I also added flames to the Main Title to transition from the dragon fire into it. For the Home Entertainment campaign I transitioned from the Main Title to the box art using an Optical Flares glint that blows out the screen and rotates.

DEAR WHITE PEOPLE

SEASON 1 CAMPAIGN GRAPHICS

   I recreated the design from the movie graphics to advertise the Netflix show based off the movie. For one misdirection spot, I created a new look that mimics a fake show the characters watch. The spot started with footage from this fake show, and then after the graphic that I animated glitching into the normal campaign style, the spot returned to regular footage from the show.

PATTON OSWALT

TALKING FOR CLAPPING TRAILER

   I designed these trailer graphics for Patton Oswalt as a combination of Star Wars inspiration mixed with comedy special spotlights and glows. I animated the 3D box turn to switch between 3 words that all started with "UN".

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

CAMPAIGN GRAPHICS

   For this campaign I worked in a style created by the Art Director to create stone text graphics in Cinema 4D which were composited and animated in After Effects. For the masthead bridge shot I teamed with another designer. He made the mastheads and tracked the footage and I rotoscoped the apes and the bridge.

FLAKED

TRAILER GRAPHICS

   I designed the trailer cards for Season 1 and Season 2 of this show. The graphics are inspired by beachy Venice, CA, where the show is set. The text is created with ink brushes in Illustrator.

TRAILER GRAPHICS

   I animated and designed the graphics for this trailer. In this film the world changes so a misogynistic man suddenly is treated in the ways that he treats women. The reflection hints at this duality. I also animated the title switching from French, the language the movie is shot in, to English.
